不管是港版國安法、還是 George Floyd 事件，雖然都發生在台灣國土之外，都很值得我們認真思考背後的意義、手段、影響、和台灣的連結。 

也因此，近期在 GRE 寫作課中，連結了這兩個事件（尤其後者），問問學生們如何回答下面實際在 GRE 分析寫作中考出的題目（問大家有「多大的程度」是同意、或是不同意該 statement，並思考有沒有什麼較強的論述，可能會挑戰到自己的論點）：

  1. If a goal is worthy, then any means（手段）taken to attain it are justifiable（可合理化的）.
    worthy 這邊的定義是：deserving respect, admiration, or support 
  2. Government officials should rely on their own judgment rather than unquestioningly carry out the will of the people they serve.
  3. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and to disobey and resist unjust laws. 

尚未在課堂中帶到，但也相關、值得思考的題目還有：

  1. In any situation, progress requires discussion among people who have contrasting points of view.

30 分鐘的英文議論文中，我要求學生每段 body paragraph 遵照 point – elaboration – example – connection – point，換作是你，你會怎麼寫呢？

GRE 分析寫作要高分，學生也必須具有理性考量、分析反對立場，時而做讓步的能力。

有人說 GRE 是全世界最煩、最難的語文考試，但我倒覺得常常它的題目是出得非常有意義的。就看我們願不願意踏出那背誦「馬關條約在 1895 年簽署」的填鴨式歷史教育，做個更有思維能力、用不同方式學習歷史的台灣人。
